The Sandpainting Shop:
Sandpaintings are created by
Southwestern Native American Medicine Men who paint loosely on the ground
in a Hogan or on tarp with colored sand, where religious or healing
ceremonies take place.
A technique was developed to make permanent sandpaintings as an art
form on particle board. Navajo artists excel at this art form. Traditional
designs are reproduced with slight modifications, as Navajo laws
protect the original designs because of their religious importance.
Nontraditional themes have also become more prevalent, including landscapes,
dancers, and still life images.
The frames are solid oak.
All crafts are handmade; please
contact us before ordering
more than one of pictured items.
Each piece is signed by the artist and a picture of
the artist is included.
