Grafted Cactus

Why are some cacti grafted? There are several reasons grafting is done. Some cacti are difficult to grow on their own roots in cultivation (example - Aztekium ritteri). Mutant forms are rare and grafting makes them more available to the collector. Seedlings that lack chlorophyll need to be grafted for their survival. Some species of cactus have very slow growth rates on their own roots, but grafting to a more robust species accelerates their growth rate.

Myrtillocactus geometrizans is our grafting stock.

All cactus are nursery grown from seed, offset or cutting. Check back frequently for new additions to our plant list.

Scion: the upper portion of a graft.
Vascular Cambium: the vascular tissues of the plant.  For a successful graft the vascular cambium of the stock and scion need to be placed in contact with each other.
